After leaving Royal Roads in 1967, I entered UVic to get into teaching. Our son Michael was born in August of 1967 and our son Robert was born in June of 1970. Once I had my teaching certificate, we moved to Prince George in 1968 where both Bonnie and I taught until returning to Victoria in 1989. In Prince George we both got into square and round dancing as well as coaching swimming and track while I also coached hockey, volleyball, basketball and led a cub pack. We loved our time in PG, but once both our boys had headed off to UVic, we moved back to Victoria in 1989. We lost Robert in 1997 and our granddaughter Molly in 1999. Bonnie fought off breast cancer in 1999 as well, which led to us getting into dragon boat paddling as Bonnie paddled with the Island Breaststrokers and I sterned for them. After a couple of years we formed a mixed senior team which we took the club crew to the world championships in Toronto in 2006. We still paddle outrigger twice a week, square and round dance four times a week except in the summer, we walk our three dogs every day, and we bike every week with our dogs in trailers behind our bikes. I retired from my day job at St Margaret’s School in 2004 but kept my open learning math class with Thompson Rivers University which keeps my mind active and is a great supplement to our pensions. We pulled our trailer across Canada in 2019 and 2021 and plan to again when our grandson Eamon graduates from Kings College in Halifax next year. We enjoy cruising and are taking another circle cruise to Hawaii from Vancouver in October of this year. Bonnie and I will be celebrating our 57th anniversary later this month and we remain in good health.
