  7928   Cajo Brando       Everything I owned was in the back of my ‘69 Mustang as I drove out through the Arch in May of 1969 for the last time. The thought of looking back at the rear view mirror as I did so crossed my mind and I intentionally didn’t do so. No more exams, pilot training and the whole wide world lay ahead. No look back required.   So now I am looking back over the intervening 55 years as all of us do from time to time, the good and the maybe not so good, things learned, unlearned and relearned, realizing full well that there are more days behind than ahead.   So… to summarize:   July 1969- July 1970    Pilot selection and training at CFB Borden , Ontario and CFB Gimli, Manitoba flying the Chipmunk, Tutor and T-33.   Sept 1970- June 1974   They didn’t have a posting for us after getting our wings, so off to Moose Jaw Sask. for “Holdover” flying on the Tutor over the winter, finall...

Assigned as 43 Radar Sqn Telecommunication Operations Officer (TelOpsO) Jun-71 Departed CFB Penhold, traveled east to CFS Sioux Lookout (39 Radar Squadron) located northwest Ontario, promoted to Captain (one month after most of my 1969 classmates). Jun-72 Left Sioux Lookout, traveled east to Ottawa where I was seconded to DRB (DREO Ottawa - Shirley Bay) for the reminder of my CAF commitment. Spend majority on my time at Fox Main on the DEW line (Hall Beach) on an experimental Over-the-Horizon Radar Project. Jan-74 Retired from CAF. Began classes at Carleton.   8026 Dempster M (Mel) A.       Posted to CFB Winnipeg after grad. Served two years in aircraft maintenance as servicing officer for Dakota, T-33, Tutor, Chipmunk, Hiller Helicopter and L-19 supporting Navigator Training and Flying Training standards at Gimli, Portage and Moose Jaw. Posted to Headquarters Ottawa DAE staff working with QETE specialists for one year, then out to DAM Rockcliffe managing Dakota, Musketeer and 707 fleets. Posted to newly formed Air Command Winnipeg managing heavy transport fleets, 707 and Hercules, for four years. Posted to Moose Jaw supporting pilot training with 121 School Tutors, 13 Snowbirds and 3 Base Rescue Hueys. After two years, sent to Staff College, Toronto for the year and then to CFB Borden AERE Squadron training new officers. Posted to Winnipeg, 14 Training Group HQ overseeing technical training at Borden and Field Technical Training Units across Canada. After two years, moved across the airfield to Air C...

8023 Dave Cudmore     MILITARY CAREER (REGULAR FORCES)   •      Graduated 1969, RCN/CAF(Navy) •     RMC Degree: BEng (Engineering and Management) •      Married Nan Kemp on 7 June 1969 •     First posting to HMCS Provider in Halifax •     Provider left Halifax in December 69 and was repositioned to Esquimalt, BC •     1971 – posted to CFB Shearwater as Supply Administration Officer •     1972 – Our son, Fletcher, was born •     1972 – selected as part of second contingent to replace our peacekeepers in Vietnam •     on last day of training in Montreal, prior to boarding aircraft, I was pulled out due to an infection after the dentist pulled all four of my wisdom teeth. •     1973 – posted to HMCS Nipigon as Supply Officer •     1974 – Our daughter, Sherry, was born • ...
