MILITARY CAREER (REGULAR FORCES)

 

     Graduated 1969, RCN/CAF(Navy)

    RMC Degree: BEng (Engineering and Management)

     Married Nan Kemp on 7 June 1969

    First posting to HMCS Provider in Halifax

    Provider left Halifax in December 69 and was repositioned to Esquimalt, BC

    1971 – posted to CFB Shearwater as Supply Administration Officer

    1972 – Our son, Fletcher, was born

    1972 – selected as part of second contingent to replace our peacekeepers in Vietnam

    on last day of training in Montreal, prior to boarding aircraft, I was pulled out due to an infection after the dentist pulled all four of my wisdom teeth.

    1973 – posted to HMCS Nipigon as Supply Officer

    1974 – Our daughter, Sherry, was born

     1975 – posted to NDHQ, DPSupS

    1977 – posted to the commissioning crew of HMCS Cormorant

    initially in Ottawa, then Levis during construction, then sailing to Halifax for sea trials and fleet introduction.

     1980 – posted to CDLS Washington as Comptroller (turned down CFS Bermuda!)

    1984 – posted back to NDHQ, DCBA, then LAV project (light armoured vehicles)

    1988 – promoted to LCdr and moved to CASAP (nuclear powered submarines) as interim Comptroller

     1992 – CASAP cancelled; moved to Drug Testing Project, which was subsequently cancelled.

     1994 – moved to TCCCS (army tactical communicatons) Project as Comptroller

    1995 – took the Golden Handshake with the Force Reduction Program

 

NEXT (SHORT) CAREER

 

    1995 – tried selling golf memberships at the Boundary golf course; it went bankrupt and was sold to GolfLinks

    1996 – signed a short term contract with Sports Canada, helping develop a drug testing regime

    1997 – took advantage of the last move benefit and moved from Orleans to Lowertown, Ottawa

 

RESERVE FORCE CAREER

 

     1997 – signed a 6 month Class A contract with Chief Air Staff – they made me wear an Air Force uniform, even though I still had my full navy regalia!  Nan thought the light blue matched my eyes better!

     1998 – signed up with the Primary Reserve List, 11 months/contract on Class B

    Four contracts with CF Liaison Council

    Three contracts as Staff Officer to ADM PER (Civ)

     2005 – retired at last!  Almost 38 years combined service.

 

 

RETIREMENT

 

    1997 to present – President of our condo association

     2006 – retirement treat for both Nan and I was a three month trip to New Zealand and Australia.  Visited our classmate Bob (now Rob) Ogilvie in Brisbane, Queensland

     still playing hockey, and added curling as a new sport, and golf in the summer

     travelling here and there, getting into the cruise lifestye this year

    in May, 16 day cruise across the Atlantic

    this coming September, 36 day cruise from Vancouver to Sydney, AUS. We’ll see Rob Ogilvie again, with his new wife (of 15 years now), Frances

     proud grandparents of 21, 19, and 12 year old girls, and 17 year old boy
