7961 Sidney (Sid) W. Larsen




Died: 12 December, 2009 (Cancer)

 LARSEN, Sidney William Lieutenant Commander November 21, 1946 December 12, 2009.

Sidney William Larsen, Sid", passed away peacefully with family by his side at the Victoria Hospice. Predeceased by his wife Audrey and father Pete he is survived and will be missed tremendously by his loving daughter Erica (Peter), son Lars (June, Lily), mother Lillian, brother Peter (Shirley), his special friend Dorothy, sister and brother in-law Margaret and Fred Birkenhead and numerous other family members through marriage as well as many other friends and acquaintances whose life he touched. Sid will be fondly remembered for his unique sense of humor that helped him get through life's many challenges, and his sharp mind paired with quick wit. Friends and relatives are invited to attend an informal celebration of Sid's life to be held at the Esquimalt Legion, 622 Admirals Road, Victoria BC, on Monday, December 21st from 1:004:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sid's memory to the Victoria Hospice at the Royal Jubilee Hospital.

As you can see from the picture Sid is wearing the 40th Year since grad cap at his home in Victoria.

Terry Rogers visited Sid today (2009 10 06), presented him with the Class cap and briefed him on the Reunion Weekend.

According to Terry he is in good spirits and is hoping to get up and about and back on his cane instead of the walker he is currently using.

Syd welcomes hearing from other Classmates although he spends little time on the computer. A phone call would be preferable at 250-595-6661

Terry Rogers a visité Sid aujourd'hui (2009 10 06), lui a présenté le bonnet de Classe et lui a donné des renseignements du Week-end de notre réunion.

Selon Terry il est de bonne humeur et espère se lever et de circuler avec sa canne au lieu de son aide à marcher qu'il utilise actuellement .

Syd accueille le fait de recevoir des nouvelles d'autres Camarades de classe. Parce qu'il ne passe pas beaucoup de temps à l'ordonnateur, on est mieux de lui téléphoner à 250-595-6661.

Who remembers talking to Sid via phone during our 2009 reunion?

Wayne Ananny, Terry Rogers and Keith Reed attended the Service. Here is Wayne's account:

I attended the Memorial Service for Sid Larsen last Tuesday. It was held in the Legion Hall in Victoria. There was a good turnout of friends, navy personnel who served with Sid, family and three members of our class: Terry Rogers, Keith Reed and myself. Sid's two children, Erica and Lars, spoke very eloquently about their father although it was clear that it was a very difficult thing for them to do.

The one phrase that was repeated over and over by the various speakers was: "Sid was one of the good ones." It was clear that everyone there had a great deal of admiration and respect for Sid and he will be missed by all.

Je publierai les détails de funérailles comme ils deviennent connus, aussi les détails de son fils et fille. L'adresse de famille est 1758 rue Townley , Victoria BC, V8R3A7.. Son partenaire depuis un certain nombre d'années est Dorothy Murphy qui l'a soutenu au cours des mois passés malgré son propre fils décédé plus tôt cette année. Ceux-là qui veulent envoyer des condoléances à Dorothy Murphy utilisent la même adresse.... Le fils de Sid est Lars et la fille Erica qui reviendra de l'Australie plus tard cette semaine.


Si quelqu'un a des photos de Sid, je les posterai avec joie.

Bonjour tous. Une Célébration de Vie ira faire tenu pour Lcdr Sid Larsen lundi, le 21 décembre à 1330 dans l'étage supérieur de la Légion Esquimalt.. Il y aura une Cérémonie de Pavot. On contactera des Porteurs de Drap mortuaire d'honneur moi-même et Bob Emery lira la Prière de Sous-marins.. SVP passez le mot à ceux qui n'ont pas d'e-mail. D'autres qui voudrait mentionner quelques mots à la cérémonie SVP me contactez à cette adresse e-mail..

(Bill) Lye College of Entry: Collège militaire royal de Saint-Jean The   Review  1969        Le Défilé  1967          I, like several of us, was a Service (Army) brat, ending up in Chilliwack, BC, where I joined the Royal Canadian Army Cadets, (RCAC), 1725 RCE Cadet Corps in 1961.  It was here in 1962 that I first met Gord Hamilton, the Cadet Pipe Major of the Victoria, BC, RCAC Canadian Scottish Regiment Cadet Corps at a British Columbia Cadet Corps Tattoo, starting a lifelong friendship there, at CMR, at RMC, in the RCE and latterly as business partners and ski buddies.   8058 Terry Melnyk 1969 Review Somewhat to my surprise, I completed 37 years in the CF as an artillery officer.  Regimental duty with 3 RCHA in Shilo and Winnipeg and 5 RALC in Valcartier. A tour in Cyprus with 5 RALC and a posting as Liaison Officer with the a US Army research institution in New Jersey pretty much sum up my foreign duties.  My career as an artillery officer crested when an appointment as Battery Commander (HQ Battery with 5 RALC) was cancelled when I slipped a disk in my back for the second time and was put on extended medical category.  That, of course, eventually healed but left me with permanent nerve damage in one leg, happily with no particular mobility issues or pain.  I was by then in competition with younger, keener (and better probably) officers for the key postings and so I settled into the life as a staff officer.
