1969-1972 Started in pilot training and had an eye injury. Was sent from Moose Jaw, SK to Kingston Medical Centre for surgery which turned out to be medically complicated requiring 2 surgeries, resulting in non-reinstatement to aircrew status. Sent to 202 Workshop, Montreal to serve out my 3 year commitment in the forces.
1972-1974 Pursued my MBA at McGill University while working as Director of Maintenance for Maislin Transport, Ville LaSalle, Montreal. Also, through Maislin connections, raced stock cars in Vermont and New York State on weekends.
1974-1980 Joined the Civil Service in Ottawa as the head of interdepartmental teams to negotiate politically significant/sensitive contracts for: oil and petroleum products during the world oil crisis; Leopard tanks; Mowag armoured wheeled vehicles (AVGP Program); F-18's (NFA Program).
1980-1982 Joined Shell Oil in Calgary as Project Manager for Major Projects
1982-1984 Joined Bechtel Group in Edmonton and Calgary as Director for Business Development for Canada. Projects included: Suncor and Syncrude in Fort McMurray; Major Oil Refinery in Edmonton; James Bay Hydro Electric in Quebec.
1984-1986 Joined Joy LBO Partners in Buffalo, NY; Ottawa; and Weston, CT. Helped purchase 3 distressed manufacturing companies, 1 in Canada and 2 in USA, while providing the successful hands-on turn around leadership at the factories.
1986- 2008 Started Contor Industries Limited for the purpose of purchasing distressed/bankrupt manufacturing companies with the intent of making them successful ongoing business enterprises. I purchased 32 companies in 11 countries of which I was successful with 28 of these companies. At its peak, Contor had more than 24,000 employees with annual revenues of more than USD 1.8 billion. The industry sectors included: Nuclear, Aerospace, Automotive, Mining, Food Processing, Electronics, Power Generation, Oil and Gas, Electronics, and Defence. The last of these businesses were sold in 2008.

Wife, Cecily Bradshaw (ne Strutt) from Brock, Saskatchewan. A pharmacist with an MBA from UofT. She is a dedicated dressage rider (currently with 3 horses) and has competed in Canada and the USA. She has studied music (piano, violin, and guitar). She attended the National Ballet School as a young girl. Needless to say she is a follower of all performing arts including: ballet, opera, symphony, and theatre. She also has a keen interest in the visual arts. She has been on the board of many charities and gives tirelessly of her time and creative mind.
Daughter, Kellie McCoy was born in Kingston in 1970. She married Jim McCoy in 1997 after which they settled in Georgetown, ON to raise 2 wonderful children; Tyler (1999) and Alexa (2001). Tyler is now a High School teacher (History and English). Tyler is engaged to Haley with the wedding planned for Feb 2026. Alexa, having graduated cum laude from McMaster University in 2023, has taken a travel year sabbatical as she considers her options.
Cecily and I are so very proud of our family's accomplishments.
