8031Employment Journey in three phases
·
69-75 CF -- Preparing for yet avoiding conflict. Failed pilot training; became Log Officer.
Uneventful postings to CFB Kingston, then to 3 Service Battalion, CFB Gagetown.
Language training followed by short stint as militia trainer in Saint John, NB
where newly acquired linguistic skills languished. Left CF in 75 for the
greener pastures of the federal public service.
·
76-98 Canadian
Penitentiary Service (now Correctional Service of Canada {CSC}) -- Living with unrelenting
conflict. Mid-managerial stints at Dorchester
Penitentiary, NB and National Headquarters in Ottawa. Warden of Joyceville
Institution, then Kingston Penitentiary.
Became well acquainted
with coroner’s inquests and the Federal Court of Canada. Acquired a taste for
investigations. Left CSC in 98 on retirement for public service with
unpenalized pension. Thank you, Paul Martin!
·
98 to present
– Chronicling conflict. After short exposure to management consulting,
worked for two years as an investigator with the Special Investigations Unit

completing harassment and violence investigations. Continue to take the odd
contract.
