8031Employment Journey in three phases

·        69-75   CF -- Preparing for yet avoiding conflict.  Failed pilot training; became Log Officer. Uneventful postings to CFB Kingston, then to 3 Service Battalion, CFB Gagetown. Language training followed by short stint as militia trainer in Saint John, NB where newly acquired linguistic skills languished. Left CF in 75 for the greener pastures of the federal public service.

·        76-98 Canadian Penitentiary Service (now Correctional Service of Canada {CSC}) -- Living with unrelenting conflict. Mid-managerial stints at Dorchester Penitentiary, NB and National Headquarters in Ottawa. Warden of Joyceville Institution, then Kingston Penitentiary.   Became well acquainted with coroner’s inquests and the Federal Court of Canada. Acquired a taste for investigations. Left CSC in 98 on retirement for public service with unpenalized pension. Thank you, Paul Martin!

·        98 to presentChronicling conflict. After short exposure to management consulting, worked for two years as an investigator with the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) in Ontario. Spent last 20 years as Conflict Management Consultant completing harassment and violence investigations. Continue to take the odd contract.

Things I’m proud of/thankful for

·        Married for 54 years to Sue; two children, Lori and Andrew;

·        Have volunteered in an unbroken chain for 55 years; still at it;

·        Rediscovered my love for music and have been singing in various groups and choirs for the past 20 years;

·        Graduated from National Defence College Course XLVI in June 93;

·        Led the Board of Directors, Ontario Division of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada;

·        Made a significant six-year leadership contribution to the establishment of a residential Hospice in Kingston;

·        Made Paul Harris Fellow (Rotary) in 2017;

·        Have never given up on the Leafs.
