1969 Review

A week after graduation I got married to Sandy and here we are in our 55th year and still going strong. Soon after I started pilot training at  Borden , I soloed on the chipmunk and then went to Moose Jaw for training on the tutor on which I also soloed.. As training went on pulling g’s and stuff I got disoriented and figured it best to stay on the ground. I then went back to my secondary trade engineering and my first love. For this I had to take a military engineering course in Chilliwack BC. After which I was posted to Base Petawawa I was planning officer in the base construction   engineering  office .

 In 73 my 4th year was up and I seamlessly took the position as Base civilian engineering officer with complete design capability.

 In 75 we moved to Yellowknife as chief engineer of the Northwest Territories, an area bigger than continental USA. With the cold war, my job was to bring infrastructure to all the communities and clearly plant our flag before the US or Russia took over our Northwest   passage.   An  amazing  challenge considering the extreme environment. In conjunction with corps of Engineers in Alaska and engineers from Denmark, I coauthored a book, Cold Climate Utilities Design manual.

In 80 I became a partner in a company that provided turnkey processing plants for heavy oil out of Lloydminster Sask/Alta as manager of marketing and engineering.

 In 87 I partnered with group headed by Robert Bradshaw that specialized in leveraged buy outs and in particular capital goods manufacturing. This resulted in moving to Orillia ON in87 to take over a company there with 400 employees.

In 92 I severed my ties with the group. This resulted in a rethink as to what I wanted to do . We bought a home Scottsdale AZ for winter use. I also started to establish a firmer financial structure. As a result we left Canada for tax purposes in 98 . we established a residence in Ireland, Sandy became a citizen, a corporate headquarters in Turks and Caicos home. It eventually became Salcantay House where I taught students how to become energy healers.

 In 2012 I wrote a book explaining what life is really all about. This might seem arrogant so I took great pains to talk about me and how I got here in a full chapter of the book, There is a good portion of the population either consciously or unconsciously searching for meaning in their lives . My book provides answers and a road map to what the future might look like. The book is called  " Yes we can create a better world, blueprint for a new HUMANITY".

In 2018 I revised my book after receiving the final piece of life's puzzle, WHATS LIFE, WHATS LIFE ALL ABOUT! YOU WILL BE SURPRISED BY THE ANSWER.

In 2021 I designed and built a duplex,   upper  and lower units, each 1600 sq ft 3 bedrooms, using the latest sustainability technology. This is a prototype for a bigger project, 40 acres just outside Orillia. It will be a senior project with a health and wellness resort style feeling

(Bill) Lye College of Entry: Collège militaire royal de Saint-Jean The   Review  1969        Le Défilé  1967          I, like several of us, was a Service (Army) brat, ending up in Chilliwack, BC, where I joined the Royal Canadian Army Cadets, (RCAC), 1725 RCE Cadet Corps in 1961.  It was here in 1962 that I first met Gord Hamilton, the Cadet Pipe Major of the Victoria, BC, RCAC Canadian Scottish Regiment Cadet Corps at a British Columbia Cadet Corps Tattoo, starting a lifelong friendship there, at CMR, at RMC, in the RCE and latterly as business partners and ski buddies. After only two weeks in Soest, Germany, where my dad had recently been posted after Chilliwack, I returned to Canada and met up again with Gord on 3 September, 1964 at CMR, neither of us having known that the other had even applied.   8058 Terry Melnyk 1969 Review Somewhat to my surprise, I completed 37 years in the CF as an artillery officer.  Regimental duty with 3 RCHA in Shilo and Winnipeg and 5 RALC in Valcartier. A tour in Cyprus with 5 RALC and a posting as Liaison Officer with the a US Army research institution in New Jersey pretty much sum up my foreign duties.  My career as an artillery officer crested when an appointment as Battery Commander (HQ Battery with 5 RALC) was cancelled when I slipped a disk in my back for the second time and was put on extended medical category.  That, of course, eventually healed but left me with permanent nerve damage in one leg, happily with no particular mobility issues or pain.  I was by then in competition with younger, keener (and better probably) officers for the key postings and so I settled into the life as a staff officer.
