Upon graduation, Lynne and I were married and moved to Ottawa for my first assignment as the Maintenance Officer with 412 Transport Squadron. Two years later we transferred to Cold Lake where I lead a newly formed Organizational Development Unit. These two assignments provided the foundation for most of my career – appreciation for and the ability to work with the skilled trades, and business process analysis and design.
I left the services upon completion of the service requirements and joined Imperial Oil, where I enjoyed a 30 plus year career. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of assignments and projects – plant maintenance and operations, plant construction projects, business stewardship, and business system implementations. We relocated several times living in Edmonton, Sarnia and Toronto with the highlight being a two-year assignment in Malaysia.
Our daughters - Kimberly and Barbara - were born in Cold Lake and Edmonton. They are married and live close by. We immensely enjoy our granddaughters – Tallulah and Neenah – both of whom have graduated from university and are pursuing their careers.
Over the years we have traveled extensively and have had the opportunity to visit most of the world’s major cities. A travel highlight was the rafting trip down the Grand Canyon.
As I was turning forty it became obvious that I would benefit from more exercise. I have enjoyed running for many years and the participation in many destination marathons including several Boston’s. After a few years I added cycling and enjoyed participation in the Subaru Duathlon series – swimming and bilingualism were two skills that eluded me at RMC. My cycling claim to fame is having ridden up Mont Ventoux. Since retirement we have been able to extend the typical one-week ski vacation to a stay at Big White for most of January and February each year.
While at RMC many of us had British sports cars, me an MGB. Those fond memories lead to the restoration of a 1975 Triumph TR6.
We are living in Toronto and enjoying the Bloor West and Roncesvalles neighbourhoods. I have been fortunate to have good health and continue to be active
